At the age of five, Shalane discovered her voice singing along to Disney and The Sound of Music and has continued to develop her life around her love for singing.
In the fall of 2006, she moved to Seattle from her home in Bend, OR, after winning the High Desert Idol Competition to pursue a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance from Cornish College of the Arts that she received in 2010.
A versatile vocalist (with a background in classical technique, choir and musical theatre repertoire), Shalane’s stylistic emphasis lies in jazz, Latin, soul, Motown and pop classics. She can be found at various venues around Seattle, fronting jazz combos and performing back up vocals in different styles. She sings in Spanish in Seattle’s ten-piece Latin Cumbia band, The Cumbieros, and hits the casino stages and others with a five piece cover band, The Factory. Along with her captivating voice, Shalane also has a love for dance and performs regularly with the local Brazilian drum and dance group, “Vamola!” She lives to perform and lift up others, sharing her passion and voice through vibrant musical experiences.
Over the last six years Shalane has enjoyed lending to the improvement of musicianship, vocal ability, musical delivery and skill of students of all ages. She provides a warm, encouraging, yet diligent environment for her vocal and piano lessons and is especially skilled in helping students gain confidence, honing in on in their individuality and proficiency with their instrument.
